Turtle frog

Turtle frogs are only found in WA, & they’re incredible animals. They’re only 5cm long, but they dig burrows up to 1.2m deep by burrowing forwards through sand (rather than backwards like most burrowing frogs). When they pair up to breed, they descend to the bottom of the burrow and then stay there for 4 months or so before they finally mate. The female then lays up to 50 eggs, but there isn’t any free-swimming tadpole stage – after approx. 2 months, tiny frogs will hatch out of the eggs.
